Founder and CEO

S Swaminathan is the Chief Executive and Founder of IRIS. An economist trained at Yale University, USA, he served as a Consultant to the World Bank in Washington DC before returning to India to first co-found a software company. He then went on to pursue a career in the media, serving in senior positions with India‘s leading financial daily, The Economic Times and later with the country’s leading magazine, Business India. He founded IRIS in 2004. His passion for transparency and good governance drive his strong evangelization of XBRL as a standard, which also espouses quality data to make a better world.

Apart from his passion for information, Swami is also avidly interested in world politics, and issues around governance and policy. His interest is not merely armchair, he likes to actively engage and contribute wherever he can to shaping policy and influencing outcomes to get a more robust governance system.

He is a long distance runner, and while he rehabilitates from running injuries, he is invited to give humorous talks on running. Before he started IRIS, Swami was also closely involved in organizing the World Cup cricket tournaments.

Swami was a member of the Consultative Committee on XBRL, MCA, Govt. of India. He was also Chairman, IT sub-committee, CII, Western Region and Vice-Chairman, Indian Merchants Chamber, Navi Mumbai.

Swami is also the Honorary Chairman of the New Bombay chapter of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.

K-Balachandran

K Balachandran

Founder and CFO

A co-founder of IRIS, Balu (or Balu Sir, as he is known) wears two hats – one as the CFO and the other as the head of the consulting, research and information practice at IRIS. He is closely associated with the DCP business line as one of the executive sponsors and leads the development of new use cases for structured and unstructured data.

Prior to founding IRIS, Balu was with CRISIL as a group leader and senior analyst, and with Tata Economic Consultancy Services as a business economist.

Balu has represented IRIS at various fora such as the IFRS Taxonomy Consulting Group of the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB); the XBRL sub-committee of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Govt. of India; the steering committee on fraud prediction models, Serious Fraud Investigation Office, Govt. of India and the XBRL International plenary.

He holds a graduate degree in chemical engineering and an MBA from Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore. Famed for his humor which holds the teams together in moments of crisis, Balu enjoys dabbling in the stock markets, reading Malayalam literature, tracking news, and events. He is a committed practitioner of yoga, and outside of work enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters.

Deepta

Deepta Rangarajan

Founder and COO

With over 22 years of experience across product development, operations and client relationship management, Deepta has responsibility for strategically building out and managing IRIS’ operations to support the Company’s vision and business objectives. She also heads the HR team and is responsible for overseeing recruitment, retention and employee engagement.

Prior to IRIS, Deepta worked at American Express Bank and headed CRISIL’s operations in North India (CRISIL is a subsidiary of Standard and Poor’s). At IRIS, Deepta played a key role in managing large client engagements during the services growth phase of the Company’s structured data story which led to the conceptualization of Carbon as a product. Today, she is the product sponsor for Carbon and is involved in all stages of the product’s strategy right from development through sales and marketing.

Deepta is a Chemical Engineer from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, and an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. Profiled as one of the 25 top entrepreneurs who graduated from IIM Ahmedabad in the bestseller, ‘Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish’ and as one of Navi Mumbai’s Power Women of 2015, Deepta enjoys singing, reading and cooking on weekends.

With over 22 years of experience across product development, operations, and client relationship management, Deepta has responsibility for strategically building out and managing IRIS’ operations to support the Company’s vision and business objectives. She also heads the HR team and is responsible for overseeing recruitment, retention and employee engagement.
