ESEF Announcement
The European Single Electronic Format (ESEF) is a regulation announced by the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) that requires European listed companies to submit their annual financial reports starting January 1, 2020 in Inline XBRL format. All companies in the European Union (EU) region are required to comply with this mandate for their 2020 annual reports. However, due to the pandemic, member countries have been allowed to delay the implementation of the mandate. ESEF Resources
Inline XBRL or iXBRL is a business reporting framework enabling machine-readable tags to be embedded in a human-readable document. This increases transparency and accuracy of financial data, and makes it comparable across companies and sectors.
ESEF Taxonomy
A taxonomy is a dictionary of concepts issued by a regulator that all issuers are required to use.
Based on the IFRS taxonomy, ESMA has issued a taxonomy called the ESEF taxonomy, that all issuers in the EU are required to use for creating their annual reports in the iXBRL format. ESEF taxonomies for 2019 and 2020 are given below in the 23 official EU languages.
